Daniella Camarena

Collective-scale Architecture Lead

Daniella was born in 1991 in Guadalajara, Mexico. She is an architect who graduated with honors from the Universidad de Guadalajara, where she completed an academic exchange at the École Supérieure d’Architecture de Normandie in France. She holds a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design from the Berlage Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture and Urban Design at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. She is currently a professor of Plastic Composition and Expression Studio, as well as Design and Spatial Conceptualization Studio, at Universidad La Salle, Mexico.

She was awarded the Jóvenes Creadores 2024–2025 scholarship by the Secretaría de Cultura of the Government of Mexico for the development of her architectural and research project Desde el giro: narrativas costeras y marinas de huracán a tifón. In 2024, she received third place in the Fuga + Techo International Competition for the Community Center in Xochimilco. She has participated in initiatives such as Bauhaus Lab 2023: Not a Penguin Pool: Echoes of More-than-Human Entanglements, Programa VACA Centro de Investigación Casa Norte, and Taller Nuevo Norte, focused on research and project development with and for migrant communities.

She has over 10 years of professional experience. At Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos, she served as Project Leader on developments such as Park Hyatt Mexico City and the Arquímedes Building, as well as hospitality projects such as Marriott and the Américas 2242 office tower. She also participated as an architect in the competition for Xala, One & Only Resort. She has collaborated with Estudio ALA and currently serves as an editor at Revista Eje Septiembre. Additionally, she has worked with Yektajo Arquitectos on the master plan for the Agricole food cooperative in El Pescadero, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Daniella is Collective-scale Architecture Lead at AMA, where she leads the design and realization of projects such as Bosque Arteaga, Nielsen House, O’Leske House, and Selvadentro, together with the studio’s team.

She finds references in architects such as Álvaro Siza, Lina Bo Bardi, and Alberto Ponis, as well as in projects such as Casa Cha, aligning with her contextual approach to design. Water is her favorite element and is present in her sources of inspiration, including swimming, being by the sea, walking through the city, and traveling. Daniella also enjoys art, culture, languages, hand drawing, and research.
