Architecture and Mental Health: Building healthy spaces and minds in parallel

Published in: October 2025

Marisol Flores, Narrative Design, Brand Identity, and Marketing Lead, brings into discussion that the mind is the first space we inhabit, however, within a framework where architecture is considered a discipline “tied to sacrifice,” the mental health of those who practice it is often overlooked.

She explains the current situation in Mexico, where “exhaustion is confused with passion,” with academic environments driven by overexertion and limited psychological support, as well as workplaces marked by long hours and a lack of wellness policies. She highlights notable international strategies and movements, as well as neurodiversity as a relevant topic within traditionally homogeneous studio models. At AMA, there is an acknowledged effort by the team to be part of these healthier work environments, which, while not easy, is currently in progress.
